Scoliosis

Scoliosis refers to a lateral curvature of the spine, where when viewed from behind, the spine is ā€˜S’ or ā€˜C’ shaped as opposed to being straight. Scoliosis becomes evident in childhood or adolescence, can progress until the skeleton stops growing, and is of a much higher prevalence in females. It is therefore of paramount importance to identify scolioses as early as possible, so as to have the opportunity to curb their progression with manual therapy. In the event of an adult diagnosis, chiropractic treatment can be very effective in reducing resultant muscle spasm, increasing comfort levels, and optimising the function of the surrounding spinal segments.
